Public Enemy making a record a$$-backwards… and it’s GENIUS!!
October 6th, 2009 by Scott HoffmanThey made a rock song with Anthrax once, so I’m throwing them in the Rock Report. Public Enemy is asking for money from fans BEFORE making the album. They are asking fans for $25 donation, with a goal of $250,000, so they can make and distribute their next album, san-record label. In return, the donating fans receive a) a numbered copy of the album when it comes out, and b) a share in the profits!! For PE, they get 100% rights ownership of this album.
They’re doing it through a site/psuedo-label called Sellaband.com, and has implications for all kinds of musicians and fans.
Say your a band in here in Southern Oregon. You have your own original songs, you rock shows, and you have a following… BUT no recorded material to show for it (and no money to do it). You can sign up for this site, sellaband.com, and then hand out fliers at your shows telling your fans to go to this site and donate. Funds get raised, and the record gets made.
On the flip side of that coin, what’s a better way for fans to support their favorite band??

5 Finger Death Punch Guitarist, Zoltan Bathory, has been reported missing since a show last friday night in Vegas. He was last seen “taking tequila shots at the bar” with a bachelor party… sounds like the premise to The Hangover 2 - Five Finger Death Punch.
